RAWALPINDI: Appellate Tribunal on Saturday rejected a petition against disgruntled Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s candidacy.
Earlier, Nisar had announced to contest the upcoming elections as an independent candidate after years of affiliation with PML-N. Nisar, disgruntled from his party over ideological differences with the party’s leadership filed his nomination paper
s for constituencies NA-63, NA-59, PP-10 and PP-12.
The petitioner had challenged Nisar’s nomination papers from NA-63 constitue
ncy stating that the candidate was accused in the Supreme Court (SC) attack case.
However, the tribunal dismissed the petition against Nisar’s candidacy, on the gro
unds that the petitioner was not a voter of the NA-63 constituency.
Earlier on June 13, Nisar’s nomination papers were challenged rom NA-59 Attock III. The petitioner had maintained the same stance in his petition like that of NA-63.
On the othe
r hand, an appellate tribunal in Karachi, overruled a petition against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s NA-243 Karachi candidature.
Earlier on June 12, a member of Justice and Democratic party Abdul Wahab Baloch had file an appeal against Khan’s nomination papers over Sita White’s case with the returning officer.
The returning officer had rejec
ted the petition, after which Baloch had filed an appeal with the appellate tribunal.
An appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday issued a notice to the returning officer over rejection of Imran Khan’s NA-95 Mianwali candidacy.
Justice Faisal Zaman Khan heard Khan’s appeal against the returning officer’s (RO) rejection decision.
Khan’s counsel, Babar Awan in the appeal had argued that the RO had given his decision without reviewing the facts, rejecting his client’s papers over failure to submit an affidavit before the deadline.
Awan argued that any person’s nomination papers could not be rejected over technical grounds.
Khan’s lawyer had appealed from the tribunal to overrule RO’s rejection decision.
Whereas, an appellate tribunal in Lahore on Saturday dismissed a petition challenging Maryam Nawaz’s PP-173 (Punjab Assembly) candidacy.
PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz will be contesting elections from NA-125 and NA-127 in Lahore and P-173.
Earlier, a petitioner had challenged Maryam’s nomination papers on the gro
unds that PML-N leader possessed two CNICs.
However, the tribunal dismissed the petition against Maryam, terming it non-maintainable.
On the othe
r hand, PTI’s Yasmeen Rashid challenged Maryam Nawaz’s NA-125 nomination papers which will be heard by the tribunal later today.
